Winter comes to Dartmoor

Winter at last!
After weeks and weeks of rain and grey, grey skies winter arrived briefly on Dartmoor and we had some snow!
The big disadvantage of having a full time office job is that when the snow hits Dartmoor it is usually on a weekday, meaning that those people claiming a "snow day" get out in it... and if there is even any left at the weekend it is covered in footprints and snowmen. Not that I have anything against snowmen - some are very cool! At least on the moor you don't have to walk very far to find an area untouched by human or animal.
On Black Tor the snow although receded was still pristine and crystalline after a hard frost. The remnants of snow seemed to point towards the greater expanse of snow over Cramber Tor in the distance. Although the day had dawned clear and frosty a bank of cloud from a weather front was making its way northwards. These mottled layers of cloud were accentuated with a 2 stop filter to mirror the dark grey of the granite rocks.
I took both portrait and landscape versions of this but I prefer the 5x4 crop of the portrait version as it gives more space to the cracks in the granite leading towards the distant hill, helped by the lying snow and the angle that it has receded.
