A fresh snowfall
One Sunday morning in February we took a drive out to Princetown, having already seen there was snow about. I wasn't prepared though for how pristine it was going to look. The snow had only stopped in the last hour and with the weather being thick fog and no wind, it was still clinging to every tree branch like a beautiful winter wonderland. Because the fog was so thick we walked to the church of St Michael where the headstones stood out starkly against the snow. This group of crosses and headstones were clustered in a small group and I love the way they seem to huddle together as if for security. The snow has given them anonymity and brought out their solid and simple form. The strong contrast is even more so against the delicate tracery of the snow covered trees in the background. The fog has reduced the rest of the background so the eye is drawn to the contrast between the manmade memorials and nature's disorder.
